The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has accused Fiat Chrysler Automobiles of failing to disclose engine management software that increased air pollution in 104,000 diesel-powered Ram 1500 trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs in the 2014 to 2016 model years. FCA officials say the software shouldn’t be considered a defeat device.
The estimated average transaction price for light vehicles in the United States reached an all-time record high of $35,309 in December, according to Kelley Blue Book. This increase, the firm noted, amounted to a 1.5% increase over the same time last year.
The estimated average transaction price for light vehicles in November was $34,948, a 1.7% increase from a year ago, according to Kelley Blue Book. An analyst with the firm attributed the increase to a shift in consumer preference from cars to more expensive trucks and SUVs.
Fueled by domestic brands and the sale of trucks and SUVs, the average price for a new vehicle in June increased 2% from a year to $33,652, according to Kelley Blue Book.
General Motors should gain market share by replacing 88% of its light-duty lineup by 2020, while Volkswagen and Korean automakers are relying too heavily on cars with consumer demand shifting toward SUVs and trucks, a Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst has said.
